GCSE Results  - August 2019

Congratulations to all our Year 11's who worked hard and got the grades they deserved.

Headline results are shown below

The cohort for 2018/2019 included a large number of students (14% of the final cohort) who joined the year group after they had started their GCSE studies. These students had a disproportionate effect on the results and therefore we have indicated not only the school’s total results but also those of the students who were in the school for the entirety of their GCSE studies.

A Level Results - August 2019

There was much to celebrate in this year’s crop of results with some outstanding achievements from many of our illustrious students. 90% of our students were successful in securing their first-choice university.

Our Deputy Head Boy, Jacob Collins achieved an excellent set of results including 2 A*s (equivalent) in Maths and Sport Studies and will be reading Mathematics with Actuarial Science at the University of Southampton.  We are also particularly proud of our Head Boy, Jordan Russell, who achieved very good results gaining 2 Grade Bs in Maths and Physics. Jordan has successfully secured a place at the University of Keele where he will be pursuing his interest in Astrophysics and Mathematics. They are examples of what motivation, diligence and hard work can accomplish. We look forward to following their academic journeys and have no doubt that they will use the foundation that they’ve built at The Sele School to propel them to even greater heights.

Gemma Caruana also performed very well gaining 168 UCAS points and subsequently has been successful at her choice to read Accountancy at Nottingham University. Other students who have been successful at securing their first choice University option are: Krystian Pluta who will be studying Biomedical Sciences at Greenwich; Victoria Lear studying Forensic Science at Nottingham Trent University and Rahima Ali who will be studying Education Studies at London South Bank University.

Several our students will be studying at various local colleges including: Fashion course at Herts Regional College as well as a course in Nursing and Midwifery. In addition to this, some students have opted not to apply to University but in the light of their results have sufficient points to go through the Clearing process if they so wish.

Most students who completed a vocational course or BTEC qualification in either Business Studies, Health and Social Care; Sport Studies or Media, achieved a number of Merits and/or Distinctions and Distinction *s.

The Year 12 results are also encouraging and there is much to celebrate here too. We have students who have gained top grades in Spanish, Maths and Chemistry thus giving them a good platform on which to build. We expect great things of them in the coming academic year.

Head teacher, Neil Dunn, “We congratulate all our students for their efforts and results and do not forget their dedicated teachers who are committed to providing our students with a first-class teaching experience and are always around to support and encourage.”

Deputy Head teacher, Tosca Hein, “Many students will be inspired by Jacob Collins’ excellent results which have secured his place at the University of Southampton to read Mathematics with Actuarial Science. Students at The Sele should be proud of their commitment to their studies which has enabled them to pursue a pathway that is appropriately interesting and challenging for them. A number of students have achieved ‘Personal bests’ by meeting or exceeding their ambitious targets that were set for them two years ago and many of them have been thanking their teachers for their relentless support which helped them to achieve these excellent results. I am very proud of the fact that our collegiate approach (staff, students and parents/carers) to our students’ academic and personal success means that they can celebrate their achievements and begin forging a bright and productive future.”

Head of sixth Form, Jane Lee, “I am extremely proud of all the hard work our students have put in the over past two years and I wish them every success for the future in all their varied career paths.“
